About Behr paint

Behr paint is a brand with a long tradition. The very idea behind it and the long history started in 1947 in the garage of the entrepreneur Otho Behr Jr.

Soon after 1947, the company and the paint itself became a success. At that moment, Otho Behr Jr was selling linseed oil paint from the back of his woody station wagon. After a short while, his customers told him that they would need a paint that would perform better on redwood than on linseed oil.

How the history started and how Behr Jr and Sr joined forces to make a great paint

Seeing the opportunity, he asked his father, an experienced chemist, to help him and develop a formula for what the customer asked for. Soon they team up and started to produce what will soon became well known as the Behr paint.

Because the company continued to grow, in 1948 they moved to Pasadena, California, and in 1954 they moved into a factory building in Alhambra, showing that the company followed a growing path that actually managed to lead them where they are today, one of the leading brands in paint business. In 1957, the company behind it had to move again, this time to Santa Ana, California.

For 39 years, it was one of the leaders of stain and varnish line, while in 1886 the company entered a new era, the era of architectural paint, a very dynamic area that will set new grounds to company's development

It is very interesting that Behr first years paint was mixed with a paddle in a 55-gallon drum and today it reached levels that nobody could dream of, probably beside the 2 persons behind it, father and son. Today, it is produced on automated production lines, computer controlled units, by specialized people that are trained to give their best to make one of the best paint available worldwide. Now there are so many Behr paint colors that it is very difficult to count and watch them all.
